Simulated Power Loss in Flight

flight-lessons

Though no pilot wants to experience an in-flight emergency, such as a loss of engine power, preparing for those emergencies is an important part of flight training. Click to debrief. Note that flight data has been imported from the Dynon EFIS Last weekend’s flight lesson with John from CHI Aerospace focused on handling an in-flight loss of power. We performed 2 exercises during the lesson: the first simulating the initial portion of a power loss, and the second simulating the last moments of power loss: the landing.

Ground Reference Maneuvers: S-turns

flight-lessons

During my lesson on Oct 28, 2017, we spent a bit of time practicing ground reference maneuvers. Click to debrief My instructor, John, and I took of from KPSM and flew north east toward York, Maine. Once we were far enough out of PSM’s class delta airspace, we started with the first ground reference maneuver: S-turns. The goal of an S-turn is to fly the aircraft so that its ground track looks like 2 opposite-but-equal half-circles, one on each side of a straight ground reference such as a roadway.

Back in the Air Again

flight-lessons

On Saturday, October 21st, I took my first flight lesson in over 2 years. Man, did it feel nice. As a little bit of background, I’m currently pursuing my Sport Pilot certificate. In the past, I took lessons at Eagle East Aviation in Lawrence, MA. Tim and the rest of the crew at Eagle East were great, but they went and sold their CTLS Light Sport, so I had to look elsewhere.
